EXTERNAL RELATIONS AND
INTERNATIONAL CONVENTIONS
BACKGROUND TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE UNIT
Internationally, most States have established anti-corruption agencies as special tools for combating corruption in various forms. Corruption is a transnational organised crime by nature, thus it requires synergies, alliances and collaboration among States and none-state players to fight it. It is also important to note that States have different legislations and cultural settings that influence their understanding and management of corruption.
Upon realisation of the need for the Commission’s increased international relations, sound diplomatic relationships, protocol and mutual legal assistance channels, the External Relations and International Conventions Unit was established at ZACC.
The establishment of such a unit within the Commission is in compliance with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption, African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption and the Southern African Development Community Protocol Against Corruption which all speak towards a corrupt free world characterised by strengthened international cooperation and technical assistance among member states.
The Unit provides facilitation support and acts as a linking hub for the Commission to the local and international community.
